To inform the agenda for the 2019 Best Practices for Oil & Gas conference, ASUG surveyed SAP customers in the oil and gas industry. The participants represented IT and business professionals across the entire value chain with 63 percent from the upstream segment, 37 percent downstream, 31 percent midstream, and 11 percent from oil field services.* In addition, key stakeholders and experts shared insights to further develop and balance our study.
Our findings show that SAP customers in oil and gas are straddling two worlds when it comes to technology—one where they’re required to do more with their existing investments and another where they’re considering next-generation technologies. Most respondents—63 percent—indicated that industry-agnostic concerns like cybersecurity and emerging technology play a large role in their technology decisions. Almost half of respondents (46 percent) believe emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), or chatbots will change their businesses in the next 12 months.
